When Kenny asked me about reviewing the Grundens x Salmon Sisters Maris Hoodie, I jumped on the opportunity. After all, who doesn’t love a comfortable hoodie? And with Kenny’s “once the weather cools down” project list getting longer, I needed something I could work in, too.

The Grundens x Salmon Sisters Maris Hoodie is a mid-weight sweatshirt that’s about as comfortable as you can hope for in a mid-layer that you expect to actually work in. Its thoughtful women’s design and style are classy enough to wear around as an everyday hoodie with movement, fit, and build that’s great for your next building project or outdoor adventure.

Fit

I ordered a size medium—I normally wear a small or medium depending on the design. For my body type, the Grundens x Salmon Sister Maris Hoodie is nearly a perfect fit! The best is that it’s a true women’s cut. It curves in through the middle and gives it an attractive, feminine look.

It sits well on my shoulders, not too tight and not swallowing me like a men’s sweatshirt would. The sleeves are also a great length. They’re not so long that they completely cover my hands and not so short that they pull down around my shoulders when I use the thumb loops.

The length is appropriate for this type of mid-layer as well. It comes down several inches over the waist of my jeans, so there’s room for me to reach overhead without giving a chilly breeze an entryway in.

Style

For this type of garment, I don’t expect a ton in the way of functional features aside from the basics, but there are plenty of little things worth pointing out. The front pockets are a full kangaroo style with zippers on both ends.

Of course, it’s a hoodie, so there’s a hood to work with. It doesn’t have cinch cords, but that’s not something you’re likely to miss since you’ll still have rain gear over the top in wet conditions. There’s enough room in the hood if you wear your hair in a ponytail or tie up your long hair.

I love that the Grundens x Salmon Sisters Maris Hoodie has thumb loops on the cuffs! They keep the sleeves down where they should be and there’s no bunching up when you put your arms through another layer or wear gloves. Plus, I just like the way they feel.

The Maris includes a few decorative points, too. There’s an anchor on the right sleeve that Kenny jokes is my new tattoo. It’s in the right place, but I don’t quite have the biceps to bring life to the illusion.

On the left side, there’s leather Salmon Sisters patch closer to your wrist and a small Grundens logo on your left chest.

You can pick this one up in Metal (grey) or Sky Blue and there are matching leggings in both colors.

Comfort

Unlike the Grundens Deckhand Hoodie that Kenny wears on our warm weather kayaking and fishing adventures, the Maris Hoodie is a mid-layer that’s comfortable enough to wear as a standalone sweatshirt on milder days.

It uses 200 grams per square meter of polyester fleece sewn into a 4-way stretch, so it’s very soft, moves easily, and wicks moisture. It’s not water and wind-resistant on its own, so you’ll want to have an outer layer for wet, windy days.
