The new Makita XRH10 pulls together solid Pro performance in a feature-rich package that’s also OSHA Table 1 compliant. There’s a lot going on here that’s worth noting, so buckle up and hang on!

Starting with the basics, this is a Makita SDS-Plus rotary hammer that’s part of the 18V X2 lineup, so you’ll need two batteries to run it. The positive, of course, is that you’re getting the extra power without needing a different battery system.

Built-in to the design are several meaningful technologies. Makita’s AVT – Anti-Vibration Technology – keeps the vibration down with a 9 m/s² rating. AFT – Active Feedback-Sensing Technology – stops the motor if you bind up the bit. Those two technologies by themselves put this model in an elite class.

There are a couple of ways to go with dust extraction from there. Makita includes an OSHA Table 1 compliant dust collection box onboard with the kit. It’s useful for being completely separate from any cords and hoses but has the drawback of small capacity.

It’s also AWS compatible. You’ll need to purchase the transmitter separately, but it will give you wireless access to the AWS dust extractor and a much greater capacity for bigger jobs.

On the performance side, this fits in the popular 1-1/8″ SDS-Plus class. It will give you 2.3 ft.-lbs. of impact energy (3.2 Joules if you like that measurement) with up to 980 RPM and 5000 BPM.
