Mi-Tek THFI Face Mount I-Joist Hanger Eliminates the Need for Joist Nails
One of the issues that comes from hanging an I-joist is the lack of a clean finish that comes from having to drive a quartet of diagonal nails into the I-joist. Yes, they are typically hidden since this is certainly not finish work, but theyโre still unsightly and are a bit irritating to drive. Mi-Tek has introduced the THFI Face Mount I-Joist Hanger that combines the characteristics of a top mount and face mount hanger.
It starts at the top with an alignment tab. It includes a holding cleat on either side, so thereโs no need to drive a nail to keep it in place while youโre getting the joist set up. It also is designed to have your I-joist set at the correct height so no vertical adjustment is needed. In the event that you canโt access the top of the beam, those tabs can be folded up and traditional speed prongs are used for the temporary placement.
As you set the I-joist in place, guide tabs on the THFI Face Mount I-Joist Hanger helps it to slide into position in case you are perfectly centered on the hanger. Sliding down to the base, seat cleats hold the I-joist in placeย for positive seating. There is also a stiffening tab in the hanger seat that eliminates the need for a web stiffener. That is assuming that the I-joist manufacturer doesnโt specify that one is required. If they do, youโll still want to add those to be in compliance.
