Salmon Sisters 6-Inch Deck Boots Nail a Womenโs Fit with Excellent Wet Grip
Whether youโre out for a day of fishing the bay or tackling wet projects around your home such as pressure washing, having shoes with a secure grip is critical. Some people might not mind dealing with wet feet, but I prefer to keep mine dry whenever I can. Iโve been wearing the Salmon Sisters 6-inch deck boot from XtraTuff for a few months now to see how they do in a variety of wet conditions.
Pros
- Secure grip
- XpressCool lining helps your feet breathe and adds comfort
- Flexible lower
- 100% waterproof
- Womenโs specific fit
Cons
- Youโll need a higher cut if youโre mucking about on a mud flat
- Whole sizes only โ order up if youโre between sizes
Recommendation
I love having a completely waterproof deck boot for out fishing excursions and wet projects around the house. Make sure you order a half size up if youโre between sizes and youโll be in great shape for a slip-free, dry feet experience.
While I really like wearing these boots, theyโre not for every situation. There are times when youโre still going to want a full-length boot for being in mud or water that comes up more than a few inches.ย But when the day calls for chasing tuna offshore or stalking redfish on the flats, the Salmon Sisters 6-inch deck boot from XtraTuf is a big win!
Fit
You can only order the Salmon Sisters 6-inch deck boot in whole sizes from 5 โ 11, so you need to plan on giving them a little bit of grace if youโre a half size. Iโm an 8 and the boots fit true to size. Go up a size rather than down if youโre between two.
Whatโs really nice is that theyโre a womenโs fit with a narrower profile than menโs boots that you might try to repurpose. They feel secure around my feet but do allow some movement in the heel area. Make sure you wear a pair of socks to avoid any uncomfortable rubbing.
The toebox is pretty generous without being too large. My toes have room to wiggle and move and they donโt feel squeezed.
Style
I have to admit to a bit of bias when Iโm giving style points. Teal is one of my favorite colors and the teal accents around the boots and pull tabs are very appealing to me.
The boots are 6 inches tall, giving them a similar height to mid-length work boots. The cut down toward your ankle a bit more than other work boots, though.
With that height, youโre not going to keep your feet dry mucking around the flats in search of clams. As a deck boot, they do their best work when water is able to escape without getting more than a few inches deep.
That said, I like this height much more than mid-calf boots. The pants I wear on the water slip over the top of them better than taller water boots and give them an overall nicer look.
One thing I noticed is how much wider the opening at the top is compared to other boots. The Salmon Sisters 6-inch deck boot is a Wellington style without any laces or cinch straps. The pull tabs on both sides of the opening make it easy to get your feet in without having to fight them after a long day on the water.
You can use the pull tabs to get your feet back out if you like. Thereโs also a thick tab right on the lower heel thatโs perfect for gripping with your foot when youโd rather not get your hands as dirty.
Comfort and Security
A lot of deck boots and water boots suffer from becoming sweatshops for your feet since they have to keep water out completely. However, these breathe better than a lot of the cheap ones thanks to an XpressCool liner.
Thereโs not much arch support in them, though. I can feel a little bump around the middle, but it misses my actual arch.
The outsole does a great job of keeping a secure grip on our flats boat and even on the polished concrete in our garage. I wear them confident that Iโm not going to slip on whatever wet surfaces the weekend throws at me.
The bootโs lower does a great job of letting my foot flex. When youโre up and down, prepping the boat, dropping the trolling motor, or unhooking a redfish thatโs lucky enough to be out of season, that flex is really helpful.
The outsole is non-marring, too, letting you move around the boat knowing youโre not going to mark up that white finish. At least, not from your boots.
Price
Retail prices for the Salmon Sisters 6-inch deck boot run $105 and weโve seen it online for a few dollars less.
