Ridgid Announces 18V Tabless Batteries to Deliver More Power
The latest development on the battery front is tabless cell technology, and weโre seeing several brands start to offer it in their lineups. Ridgid has announced that itโs coming out with the 4.0Ah Max Output EXP Battery, which utilizes tabless cell technology to deliver more power in a compact package. So, what does this mean, and how do these batteries compare to the brandโs existing platform?
Ridgid Max Output EXP Tabless Batteries โ Whatโs Inside?

Ridgid promises these batteries to be a major upgrade from their normal 18V batteries by utilizing 21700 cells and tabless connections within the battery. While this technology isnโt brand new, Ridgid is the latest brand to enter it into its lineup. We first saw it with the launch of Milwaukeeโs Forge batteries, and more recently Ryobiโs HP Edge batteries in early 2024.
Unlike the conventional battery design, which uses one or two internal tabs for energy transfer, tabless cells maximize the pathways for internal energy transfer by limiting the amount of resistance. What follows is a power boost of up to 3X compared to standard Lithium-ion batteries, according to Ridgid. Plus, this design also helps the battery to run cooler for all-day performance.
Crunching the Numbers

Ridgidโs new EXP tabless batteries boast some pretty impressive stats right out of the gate. Whether youโre cutting, drilling, or anything in between, these batteries will deliver higher performance, more power, and a longer runtime.
Ridgid provides some examples of how a 4.0Ah Max Output EXP Tabless Battery outperforms a standard 4.0Ah Li-ion battery:
- Delivers more than 2X faster cutting in 3X stacked 3/4-inch OSB using the 18V Brushless 7 1/4-inch Rear Handle Circular Saw
- Delivers over 70% faster cutting through 2ร10 yellow pine using the 18V Brushless Reciprocating Saw
- Drills 40% faster through 2.8 yellow pine (3 holes in 10 seconds) with a 2 9/16-inch self-feed bit in High speed using the 18V Brushless 1/2-inch High Torque Hammer Drill/Driver
Ridgid Max Output EXP Tabless Battery Price
You can get 4.0Ah EXP batteries for $139 each. However, theyโre on Special Buy pricing right now at Home Depot for $119. The higher capacity 8.0Ah packs are also on Special Buy pricing for $199, and 12.0Ah packs are $249.
