Craftsman, Porter-Cable, Husky Compressors Recalled

Yesterday theย U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of various Craftsman, Husky, Porter-Cable, Delta Shopmaster and DeVilbiss Impact Series vertical and horizontal air compressors. The air compressor motor can overheat, posing a fire hazard and DeVilbissย received nine reports of motors overheating, including three reports ofย fire damage to surrounding property. Fortunately, no injuries have yet been reported. The model number andย manufacture date on each unit is located on the unit name plate on theย tank. Consumers should stop using recalled productsย immediately unless otherwise instructed.

When recalls like this happen, itโ€™s a neat study in the OEM process and how one flaw can affect multiple brands. In this case, the problem appears to be with the motor which was used on a number of different products. The solution appears to be fairly expedient and not terribly inconvenient and weโ€™re thankful they caught it before there were any major incidents.
