Metabo HPT has been hitting on all cylinders with their product releases. In the last month alone, weโ€™ve covered everything from their 1-1/32-Inch SDS Plus Rotary Hammer (DH1826DAQ4) and 36V 12-inch MultiVolt Miter Saw (C3612DRAQ4) to their 18V Hammer Drill (DV18DCQ4). Now, Iโ€™m adding another piece of gear to our coverage: the Metabo HPT 18V MultiVolt Reciprocating Saw (CR18DBQ4M).

Metabo HPT 18V Reciprocating Saw Performance and Design

Driving this tool is an 18V lithium-ion battery and a brushed motor. Especially considering how far cordless technology has come, I would, hands down, prefer a brushless model. Theyโ€™re more efficient, and generally last longer. That said, this isnโ€™t a dealbreaker at a $120 price point.

In terms of blade speed, Metabo HPT tells us that you can expect this 18V reciprocating saw to deliver upwards of 3,000 strokes per minute. Thatโ€™s at the top end of where most saws run. And, according to Metabo HPT, that number is 36% higher than previous models. As for the stroke length, youโ€™re looking at 1-1/8 inch.

In spite of the increased speed, you should also experience 36% less vibration. This is going to reduce fatigue on those long days. Part of this reduction is thanks to the CR18DBQ4Mโ€™s counterbalance gear system. This design works by rotating the output shafts in opposite directions, thus creating a counterbalance that steadies the tool.

Regarding design, Metabo HPT equipped this 18V reciprocating saw with a variable speed trigger for added control. Moreover, this unit features an orbital cutting mode for more aggressive cuts, as well as a tool-free blade change system and an LED work light.

Metabo HPT CR18DBQ4M Price

The Metabo HPT 18V MultiVolt reciprocating saw retails for $120 as a bare tool and comes with a lifetime warranty.
