Powerful, Lightweight, and Quiet
ย
Makitaโs 12-amp motor generates 148 CFM of suction power and 92โณ of water lift to tackle more challenging construction projects than their smaller vacs do. It features a variable speed control dial, as well as a soft start function for lower amp draw at start-up.
The Makita 11-gallon dust extractor also employs a smaller footprint, less weight, and less noise for indoor and room-to-room applications. Theyโve designed the motor chamber with sound-absorbing materials so that, even at peak performance, this dust extractor only generates 60 dB(A).
The vac uses precision lightweight motor components and an efficiently-designed ducting system to keep the weight reasonable. Not only does the new dust extractor weigh in at 35 lbs, but its wide-set rear wheels and enlarged steel caster front wheels create a lower center of gravity.
HEPA Protection
The VC4210 includes a 3-stage filtration system that maximizes container volume and improves filtering efficiency. Its main flat filter captures 99.95% of particles 2 microns and larger. The certified HEPA filter catches 99.97% of particles .3 microns and larger to meet or exceed the Department of Energyโs standard for HEPA filters.
An Automatic Filter-Cleaning System keeps the filters clean from debris, extending their lifespan.
Makita VC4210L VS VC4710L
Right out of the gate, there are a couple of obvious differences between Makitaโs two higher-capacity dust extractors. The canister size loses one gallon of capacity as a trade-off for its smaller footprint and better center of gravity.
Even though the overall size decreases, the weight is 8 pounds heavier.ย On the controls, the vac shifts from everything on one dial to two dials.
Thereโs a slight power upgrade, moving from 135 CFM on the VC4710 to 148 CFM on the new VC4210L. Water lift remains the same at 92โณ.ย While not everyone uses a 6โณ grinder wheel for concrete work, itโs worth noting that this model falls just short of being Table 1 compliant for that grinder size. Objective Data or Scheduled Air Monitoring might still be a possibility, though.
Makita tells us this dust extractor is AWS capable by using their Universal AWS Adapter. Thatโs also true of the VC4710 since it has a tool activation outlet as well. If youโre not familiar with the benefits of AWS, check out this article for more details.
The top looks radically different, though the hose and cord management is similar. Makitaโs interlocking cases are now able to secure to the top, making it a bit easier to move your tools around the jobsite.
Finally, if we want to be really nit-picky, the new model is 1 decibel louder. We donโt think its 60 d(B)A level is going to upset many folks, though.
Pricing
The Makita 11-gallon dust extractor comes in at $599.99โabout $70 more than the VC4710. We were able to find it on Amazon, but its initial price is quite a bit more than Acme Tools has it for.
In addition to the new design, the vac also includes a HEPA filter that the older model doesnโt.
