It Works Like a Pipe Wrench Should, Just Lighter Than You’d Expect

Lightweight Wrenching

The LENOX Aluminum Pipe Wrench line doesn’t reinvent any wheels with its design. The business end of the wrench operates just as you’d expect. The nut adjustment feels smooth and easy with a knurled edge that’s easy to grip, even with gloves on. The hook and heel jaws both employ effective ridging to bite down on pipe or other thick metals.

These LENOX wrenches feature an aluminum handle. Contrasted against the typical cast iron pipe wrench, these aluminum wrenches drop some weight. We found them pretty comfortable to use. While it’s probably fair to say that there really isn’t much difference in ergonomics between this and your standard pipe wrench apart from the reduced weight—that weight makes a difference on a tool this size.

Use a pipe wrench overhead for any length of time, and going from cast iron to aluminum makes a lot of sense. How much? Well, on a 24-inch pipe wrench, you go from 11.2 to just 5.75 pounds by switching from cast to aluminum.

That cuts your weight almost in half! You pay as much as 33% more for that convenience, but if it lets you work longer—and for more years—it’s well worth it.
