It wasnโt that long ago that we saw USB ports on tool batteriesโBlack and Decker did this back in 2016. Before that, there was the Milwaukee USB Power Source, which came with their heated gear, Makita ADP05 power source, and the DeWalt DCB090 USB charger. Each of those was an adapterย that turned any compatible tool battery pack into a USB charger. EGO Nexus Escape Power Inverters takes it further by adding a 120V AC outlet.
Features and Use
Attach the EGO Nexus Escape power inverter to any EGO battery, and you get an AC outlet from 150W to 400W. Thatโs enough to power up laptops, fans, lights, and more. Plus, you get two USB outlets for powering phones and tablets. Itโs compatible with all EGO 56V batteries, and it retails for just $99. Do the math, and you can run a 42โณ LCD TV for around 10 hours on their 5Ah battery. That same TV could theoretically run for 15 hours on the 7.5Ah battery pack.
At 150W, this isnโt something youโd want to use with larger power tools. It does, however, provide a compelling alternative to DC-based inverters that would connect to your truck or SUV. We recently went camping, and this type of system would have powered a laptop for a considerable amount of time before requiring a recharge. Given that a modern 13โณ laptop runs for around 10 hours, a single 5.0Ah EGO battery would operate it for as much as 40 hours or more (see chart below).
EGO Nexus Escape Inverters Compared
| Power (Max) | AC Outlets | USB Outlets | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nexus Escape 400W PAD5000 | 400W (800W) | 120V (3.3A) | USB-A 2x USB-C (18W/100W) |
| Nexus Escape 180W PAD1800 | 180W (360W) | 120V (1.5A) | USB-A USB-C (100W) |
| Nexus Escape 150W PAD1500 | 150W (300W) | 120V (1.25A) | 2x USB-A |
EGO Nexus Escape Power Inverter Performance
EGO gives a per-battery breakdown of the 150W inverterโs capabilities (based on the 150W model):
- 2.5Ah = 12 iPhone charges (11Wh), 3 tablet charges (41Wh), 2+ laptop charges (54.5Wh)
- 5.0Ah = 25 iPhone charges (11Wh), 6 tablet charges (41Wh), 4+ laptop charges (54.5Wh)
- 7.5Ah = 38 iPhone charges (11Wh), 10 tablet charges (41Wh), 7+ laptop charges (54.5Wh)
- Additionally, it will run a 42โณ LCD TV with 0.5A draw for 5/10/15 hours, respectively

I think glamping is about to get even more popular.
