Precise and rugged. Those are the two adjectives used to describe these DeWalt laser levels and laser distance measures. Included in the family are the DW03050 165′ and DW03101 330′ Laser Distance Measures as well as the DW088K Cross Line, DW0851 5 Spot and Horizontal Line, DW0822 Cross Line and Plumb Spot, and DW0811 360 Degree and Cross Line Lasers. Using laser measures is a quicker process for most volume and room measurements that will top even the best tape measures.

DeWalt Laser Distance Measures

Both distance measure models feature automatic area and volume calculations, employ Pythagoras’ Theorem for indirect distance measurement (Yes, Pythagoras’ Theorem really does have a real-world application!), are IP65 rated for water and dust/debris resistance, and are 6-foot (2-meter) drop tested. The DW03050 offers 165′ of distance measure with the ability to store 5 measurements and a 2-line backlit display to help in both dim and bright conditions. The DW03101 features 330′ of distance measure, an integrated inclinometer, a larger 3-line backlit display, memory to store 20 measurements, and a multi-functional end piece that adjusts for edge and corner measurements.

DeWalt Laser Levels

The combination laser levels vary in their design to accomplish their tasks, primarily in the visual laser itself. However, let’s start by examining what they have in common. All four are Class 2 lasers, are self-leveling to +/- 4 degrees, have a range of 165 feet, and run on 3 AA batteries that Dewalt includes. Three of them are accurate to 1/8″, with the exception of the DW0811 family, which is accurate to 5/32″.

The differences primarily lie in the points and lines each laser projects, as well as a couple of accessories included in some of the kits.

DW088K Cross Line Laser

The DW088K is the most basic of the laser systems, featuring a simple vertical and horizontal crossing projection.

The DW0851 features 5 spot beams to cover the left, right, up, down, and frontal directions from the laser as well as a horizontal beam to the rear. It has an integrated magnetic pivoting base, locking pendulum, and is IP54 rated for water and dust.

DW0822 Cross Line and Plumb Spot Combination Laser

The DW0822 projects plumb points and a horizontal/vertical cross beam. It shares the major features of the 0851, including its IP54 rating for water and dust resistance, an integrated magnetic pivoting base, and a locking pendulum. This one is a bit tougher to find, but I was able to locate one online retailer that had it priced at $170.

DW0811 360 Degree Line and Cross Line Laser

The DW0811 has a unique laser pattern with its vertical frontal projection and a 360-degree horizontal beam. It also shares an IP54 rating for water and dust, and a locking pendulum. The base for this laser features vertical adjustment as well as 1/4″ and 5/8″ threaded mounts. The accuracy of the 0811 is just a slight bit worse than the others at 5/32″.
