We love table saws, and lawsuits notwithstanding, we like some of the new products that are finally starting to hit the market. We got our hands on the DeWalt DW745 table saw, the company’s handy new 10-Inch job site model. It comes with a new Site-Pro modular guarding system that adjusts the saw quickly for a variety of cuts. It really makes the job all that much quicker, with accurate cuts that don’t take long to set up. The saw is both portable and powerful. The motor pumps through 15 amps, and it has a large 16″ rip capacity.

This tool includes a split blade guard, adjustable miter gauge, and even a push stick – all of which secure to the side of the tool itself for easy portability. Also included is a 10-inch, 24-tooth carbide blade, which will get you started, but as we’ve found with most DeWalt blades, it should be replaced as soon as possible. Regardless of what blade you put on it, it will spin up at 3,850 rpm (no-load) and should be quick enough to take all that 15-amp power and chew through even the hardest hardwood or pressure-treated lumber.

The table saw’s unique fence allows for a substantial 16-inch rip capacity when it telescopes out from the deck. Since it retracts, it works for full-sheet ripping, or you can retract it for a more portable package. Checking out the fence, we were surprised to see rack and pinion fence rails. This helped make adjusting the fence fast and smooth, not to mention accurate. But more than just delivering a hefty ripping capacity, the DeWalt DW745 table saw also allows for a maximum depth of cut that is 3-1/8″.

When the blade is tilted to 45 degrees, it will still cut to 2-1/4″ deep. DeWalt coated the deck of the DW745 to lower friction and make cuts smoother and more manageable. The entire tool is encapsulated in a sort of metal roll cage to give you a saw that can truly handle jobsite stresses.

This entire table saw weighs about 45 pounds. Even if you add in the optional folding stand, that makes for a pretty portable system. If that’s not enough, the DeWalt DW745 table saw includes convenient on-board tool storage for the Site-Pro Guard, kickback blades, and push stick. If you want to keep your workshop clean, a 2-1/2″ dust collection port can attach to a Shop-Vac to safely and efficiently extract dust from the work area.
