New DeWalt Cordless 10-inch Miter Saw is Its Most Powerful, But Has Limitations
If youโre after a miter saw, DeWalt has you well-covered. Whether youโre looking for something corded or battery-powered, thereโs no question that DeWaltโs range in this saw category is vast. Now, the brand is adding a new 10-inch model to the 20V Max battery line, which is supposedly their most powerful cordless compact miter saw. Iโm examining the DeWalt 20V Max 10-inch Double-Bevel Fixed Miter Saw to see what it can bring to your jobsite.

DeWalt 20V 10-inch Miter Saw Performance

- Model: DeWalt DCS714
- Power source: DeWalt 20V Max or FlexVolt battery
- Blade size: 10-inch
- Speed: 4900 RPM
- Runtime: up to 434 cuts in 3 1/4-inch MDF; up to 311 cuts in 2ร4 SPF
- Bevel range: 49ยฐ Left; 49ยฐ Right
- Miter range: 50ยฐ Left; 50ยฐ Right
- Quick bevel-adjustment pawls
- Cut capacity: 5 1/4-inch at 90ยฐ, 6-inch horizontal
The DCS714 is DeWaltโs first 10-inch model on the 20V Max platform, and its brushless motor achieves a blade speed of up to 4900 RPM. This top speed is just under what we see in DeWaltโs popular DWS713 corded 10-inch miter saw.
However, weโve seen big differences in torque between AC and battery-powered models, so donโt judge it on blade speed alone. In fact, the bevel gearing system is designed to minimize power loss compared to belt drives and should drive more confidently at the edge of its limits.
Using a DCB2108 PowerPack 8.0Ah battery (sold separately), DeWalt internal testing showed 434 cuts in 3 1/4-inch MDF base molding, or around 311 cuts in 2ร4 softwood. Whether youโre cutting flooring, molding, or trim, these figures are conducive to all-day runtime. However, if youโre using a smaller-capacity battery, itโs wise to have an extra pack on deck!
Note also that this saw is optimized for the PowerPack battery. If you use a standard pack, youโll still be able to cut, but youโre sure to see a slight drop in performance.
The DCS714 features a dual-bevel design, with a bevel range from 0ยฐ to 49ยฐ in both directions. The included bevel pawls also let you quickly set your bevel angle to 22.5ยฐ or 33.9ยฐ.
For miter cuts, it has a miter range of 50ยฐ left and right.
When it comes to trim jobs, you can make cuts up to 6 inches horizontally, 5 1/2 inches for vertical base, or 5 1/4 inches for nested crown.
DeWalt 20V Max 10-inch Miter Saw Design

- Weight: 41 lbs (bare)
- LED shadow cut line
- Miter lock
- Dual-fitting dust port
- Top carrying handle
- Back stabilizer bar
As a 10-inch model, the DCS714 is more compact than DeWaltโs 12-inch counterparts. This is ideal for those with more limited work/storage space. Its listed weight is around 41 pounds for the bare tool, which is a bit more than the corded DWS713 (31 lbs), but still manageable for most people. A carrying handle on top of the saw makes it easier to transport to different work areas.
DeWalt is sticking with the Cutline LED blade positioning system with this saw. We prefer LED shadow cut lines since theyโre more accurate, donโt require calibration when you change blades, and are easier to see than laser lines, especially in the sunlight.
For dust management, DeWalt equipped this saw with a dual-fitting dust port, which attaches to either a dust extractor hose or the included dust bag. According to DeWaltโs data, it captures an impressive 97% of dust particles during use to keep your work area cleaner.
DeWalt 20V Max 10-inch Miter Saw Price
This saw retails for $399 as a bare tool, and it includes a 10-inch, 32T blade and several accessories and attachments. Thereโs also a kit that comes with an 8.0Ah PowerPack battery and charger for $549. DeWalt backs your purchase with a 3-year warranty, 1-year service agreement, and 90-day money back guarantee.
Should You Buy It?
Considering thereโs no rail system to extend the cutting capacity across the table, thereโs no question DeWalt primarily designed this model as a trim saw. If thatโs your game, it checks all the right boxes to be a full corded replacement and your primary miter saw.
One thing to keep in mind is that it comes with a 32T blade. If you want an installation-ready finish, expect to swap it out for a higher tooth count.
For those of you who want the higher capacity of a sliding miter saw and/or a 12-inch blade, DeWalt has you covered there as well. The DCS875 is the one if youโre looking to stay on the 20V Max platform. Its higher capabilities come with a price tag thatโs several hundred dollars higher, though.
