Bosch is bringing another affordable cross line laser to the market in the form of the new Bosch GLL 30. Itโs strikingly similar to the GLL 2 at first glance, but there are some changes in the newer model. With the recent drop in price for the GLL2, itโs a decent bet that weโre looking at the replacement model moving forward.
Starting with the housing, the dimensions have changed to be a bit more compact, though the weight remains the same at half a pound. Itโs still a plastic composite housing and includes 1/4 inch threading to mound on a tripod. It is kitted withย the MM2 Flexible Mounting Device that canย clamp on to objects 1/2 inch to 2-1/4 inches thick.
Internally, the range is still 30 feet with a Class II laser that is now slightly brighterย at 635 nm (the last model was 650 nm and optimal for human vision is green in the 520 โ 570ย nm range). The accuracy has loosened up a little bit, moving from 3/16 inch to 5/16 inch at 30 feet. While itโs only an 1/8 inch difference, precision-oriented users may not find this to be acceptable.
The pendulum system is self-leveling up to 4 degrees with an out-of-level indicator. A pendulum lock has been includedย to make transportation a little safer for the unit. The lock automatically engages when the Bosch GLL 30 is turned off. When you want to mark angles intentionally, manual mode can be engaged.
โBasic functionality doesnโt mean the tool isnโt versatile. Thatโs certainly the case with the Bosch GLL 30. This tool has very bright cross-lines lines at 30 ft., can lock lines at any angle, and comes with a flexible mounting device that clamps on virtually any surface to project lines from any height or angle, which for many professionals and DIYers is whatโs needed. Itโs small and compact, but it gets the job done with precision.โ
